Steiermark (Styria)

7/13/98. Yesterday we took a bus trip to Werfen, visited the "Eisriesenwelt" above the city, beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. The original plan was to go up on the Dachstein and take a hike on the glacier but the weather was overcast and we wouldn't have been able to see much. Last night we stayed in Rohrmoos above Schadming. We watched France win the World Cup against Brazil 3 to 1 in the Hotel Sporthof. Schladming is where I spent a week skiing as a participant in the Skiwoche of the Akademisches Gymnasium.

On the way back to Graz, we stopped off to visit the monastery library in Admont, which was quite impressive.

7/19/98. Excursion to eastern and southern Styria. This morning stopped over in Bärnbach to see the St. Barbara Church which Friedensreich Hundertwasser redid in 1988. We also stopped off in Piber, to visit the stables where the Lipizzaner horses of the Spanische Reitschule in Vienna are kept and bred. Then drove along the "Styrische Weinstrasse" to Seggau.
